All That Shines Under The Dirt is an immersive installation composed of giant flowers made out of found crashed cans in one of the Detroit 's neighborhood where I live. I made 19 large scale flowers (inspired by drawings made by kids and people of the neighborhood on the floor of a local art space ). This is one of them. It's my flower :)
I collected and washed crashed cans for about 20 months. There's a video documentation, if you are interested. I assembled all the flowers mechanically using wire, can by can. After many failed approaches I found a way to assemble the cans that was stable. The sculpture has 2 facings different from each other. I like it suspended but it can also be mounted on the wall.
I work mostly with found objects that intrigued me for different reasons.
The crashed cans can be found everywhere there are streets and cars.
