DISPOSABLE FASHION (2006)
Disposable Fashion is a series of costumes that I constructed using disposable materials, hair curlers, pads, latex gloves, sponges.
It's a double arrow. It's a Fashion statement and a Global Warn/ming call. I use disposable objects to construct the costumes to literally declare what I think fashion is now. Clothing used to be custom-made and worn until it was not repairable ( my grandmother's job back in Italy). The modern fashion industry produces cheap clothing that are mass-produced, mostly in sweatshops which are intended to be thrown away after few months. I also use the costumes to activate performances that address the Environmental disaster we got ourselves into.
I am interested in materials that are not "seen" in our daily life, used once maybe twice and then toss away, and yet have a huge impact on life on Earth. I develop costumes organically trough the structures they hold, knowing that eventually I will understand or see the right place for their use.
