Description
Made of crashed cans ( crashed by the cars ) found on the edges of streets.
I assembled the cans mechanically using wire, can by can. After many failed approaches I found a way to assemble the cans that was stable. The sculpture has 2 facings different from each other. I like it suspended but it can also be mounted on the wall.
I am self thought artist. My background is in dance but my brain likes to assemble structures with all kinds of materials.
I work mostly with found objects that intrigued me for different reasons.
This series of works made out crashed cans is part of a larger installation work called "All That Shines Under The Dirt"

Description
All That Shines Under The Dirt is an immersive installation composed of giant flowers made out of found crashed cans in one of the Detroit 's neighborhood. I made 19 large scale flowers (inspired by drawings made by kids and people of the neighborhood on the floor of a local art space ) and 1 Rainbow.. I collected and washed crashed cans for about 20 months. There's a video documentation, if you are interested. I assembled all the flowers mechanically using wire, can by can. After many failed approaches I found a way to assemble the cans that was stable. The sculpture has 2 facings different from each other. It's meant to hang from the ceiling. I like it suspended but it can also be mounted on the wall.
I am self thought. My background is in dance but my hands like to assemble structures with all kinds of materials.
I work mostly with trash or disposable objects. I see trash as energy.
Trash/Litter is here to stay but I can make it beautiful. People walk by it and don't see it. Even when people see my sculptures they don't realize it's trash; they think I crash the cans by hands.
Artist Statement for the project.
All That Shines Under The Dirt is what catches my eyes, sparks of light under the dirt, dormant energy lost in space, traces of human behavior which I sense and have a desire to gather. I feel if I assemble all this energy together into a new form I will understand something about myself my surroundings and our human fragility. It’s also my desire to pick up the disposable and give it a second chance to be seen.

Part of a larger installation called "The Losers Show". All the works are made with "Loser" Tickets, either found or given to me.
My work attempts to understand behavior, change perception of materials and space.
This piece is inspired by the hand movement of crinkling the tickets after realizing the loss. The tickets found on the streets are either thorn in pieces, crinkled or whole.
Most of my artwork is also assembled mechanically, piece by piece.

Bloodrite (2022)
Wearable Sculpture
Material: women pads, thread, underskirt, structure
Wedding Dress size 4
The monthly ritual of blood for women was and still is something to hide, to be ashamed of, a taboo conversation, something dirty, an underrated aspect of women's life. So is the unspoken pain that is associated with it.
Dealing with pain every month changes you. I think it made me stronger.
This wedding dress, the ultimate Fetish Icon, is a reminder of that pain.
I wanted to make the most beautiful dress to represent that Bloodrite given to women.
